A 50-year-old woman at Choggu in the Sagnarigu district, Madam Sanatu Ramadan has won a five hundred Ghana cedi scholarship for her grandson, Ramadan Fatawu at the Nestle Ghana-NIDO nutrition day quiz competition.
Madam Sanatu took home her 500 cedis cheques and other products from Nestle Ghana Limited on Saturday at St Gabriel Primary School after she beat six women for the ultimate prize.
Fatawu, a Primary Five (B) pupil accompanied by his twin brother Muniru, expressed their gratitude to their grandmother for her effort in winning the prize.
The quiz centered on food that helps children grow healthy the appropriate time children need to eat and the ingredients of NIDO and their uses to human body, among others.
Over five hundred mothers, who took part in the quiz, also went home with branded exercise books and some NIDO powdered milk and cups for their children.
The prize, according to Nestle Ghana, was to offset the educational cost for the winning ward in the next academic year.
The Nestle Ghana NIDO nutrition day which started in 2015, is a day when parents are educated on good nutritional choices for their children.
Eighteen (18) schools across the country were piloted for the program, which has been increased to 24 schools in 2016.
The consultant to Nestle NIDO nutrition day program, Diana Teye urged mothers to pay special attention to their children’s nutritional needs, while hoping that parents make good nutritional choices for their children.
Nestle she added was committed to improving nutritional the needs of Ghanaian children.
The Northern Regional Coordinator of the School Health Education Program (SHEP), Madam Benedicta Kafari explained that even though the program is for children, parents need to be present because they take care of the children.
She explained that beneficiary schools are always selected based on the high number of pupils with the aim that it will be shared among other Schools.
