The two medical doctors embroiled in a power struggle at the Gushiegu District hospital have been directed to proceed on a three-month leave with immediate effect, Zaa News has gathered.

A directive was given by the new Northern Regional Director of Ghana Health Service, Dr Tetteh Quarshie,  when he paid a working visit to the hospital over the impasse.

Long before he assumed the reins at the GHS, our sources say, Dr Quarshie  knew of the power struggle at Gushegu hospital.

Little wonder therefore that upon arrival in Tamale, he asked for files of Gushegu hospital to acquaint himself with issues brewing there.

After a carefully study of the situation there, he asked Dr Sayibu S. Shahadu and Dr Barhama to proceed on leave to pave way for new doctors for the facility.

Our sources say Dr Shahadu is likely to be sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital’s Gynecology unit while Dr Barhama will likely end up at the Tamale West Hospital.

Workers at the facility were sharply divided over the doctors’ power struggle over the medical superintendent position.
