As part of its efforts to avert the outbreak of sanitation related diseases, waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, is embarking on regional disinfestation exercise of public toilets, storm drains, unapproved refuse dumps and refuse container sites.

The exercise which is being carried out by Zoomlion Spraying Gang under directives from district environmental and sanitation officers  is currently underway in all the 26 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region and is targeting recent flooded areas in the capital and its adjoining districts.

Speaking to Zaa News, the northern regional Victor Control Officer of Zoomlion Ghana, Mr Abdul Azizi Yalsuma explained that the exercise was to make residential areas safe.

Areas targeted for the quarterly disinfestation exercise in Sangarigu and Tamale include Gumani, Gariba Lodge hotel area, Sangani, Nyashegu, Tamale Landfill site and communities around the site, Mr. Yalsuma said.

Zoomlion, Mr Azizi added, will continue to monitor areas being disinfested to ensure that there is no breeding place for mosquitoes, especially in the flood prone areas in the region.

Weeks after the flooding in Tamale, the Ghana Health Service issued a cholera alert warning residents to beware of a possible cholera outbreak.

But, Mr Azizi said Zoomlion was ready to help residents live in a clean and safe environment. He therefore advised residents to inculcate the habit of keeping the immediate surroundings clean to avoid communicable diseases.
