The Anbariya Sunni community has presented relief items, worth 3,854,900 Ghana cedis, to the Northern Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
The items undoubtedly were the biggest in the country to have come from a religious body. It was mobilized by the Anbariya 2018 Disaster Relief Program.
The leadership of Anbariya met after floods hit the northern region this year. Properties, worth thousands of Ghana cedis, were destroyed and several people rendered homeless.
The natural disaster put both the government and individuals in a state of confusion. But for the Anbariya Sunni community, it was time for the Muslim Ummah to show love as the religion teaches.
The leader of Anbariya, Sheikh Saeed Abubakar Zakaria explained to the Ummah that the leadership met and deliberated on how to get some support for the victims.
All Imams of Anbariya Mosques in the northern region, he said, were tasked to add the plight of the victims on their Friday sermons because the government alone cannot support them.
The messages, Sheikh Saeed said, were received in good faith and by Allah’s grace, a lot of items were mobilized. Sheikh Saeed thanked everyone who provided for the victims.
The Chairman of the Anbariya Disaster Relief Program, Haj Abdul Wahab Gumdilana gave a break down of the items mobilized as follows; 173 pieces of roofing sheets, 83 bags of cement, 505 bags of maize, 10bags of cassava, 6 boxes of cooking oil, 10 boxes of tomatoes, 20 bags of new wax prints, 35 bags of foot wear, 8 boxes of laundry soap, 2 boxes of pomade, 4 bags of assorted bowls, caps and spoons among others.
The items were handed over to the regional directorate of NADMO for onward distribution to the victims. This is the third time that Anbariya is providing support for flood victims.
