Celebration of Damba festival cancelled inYendi

The Yendi Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in consultation with other stakeholders has called for the cancellation of celebration of this year’s Damba festival in Yendi Township.

The decision was reached at a meeting on Sunday 11th and 12th December 2016, to evaluate security situation and the implications of the celebration of Damba festival in Yendi.

MUSEC has therefore urged the regent of Dagbon and the acting president of the Dagbon Traditional Council, His Majesty Kampakuya-Naa Andani of Yakubu to consider calling off the remaining activities lined up for the Damba festival.

The last activities to climax the the festival commenced on Thursday December 1st, 2016, a statement issued in Yendi and signed by the registrar of Dagbon traditional council Mohammed Adam Garibaldi has said.

The area was marked as one of the flash-points in the just ended peaceful elections in Ghana. The municipality and its environs recorded zero incidents of election violence which many anticipated. However, security operatives working underground foresee some potential violence during the celebration of the Damba festival.
