imageThe District Chief Executive (DCE) for Mion, Dan Makandan has condemned the mob action that claimed the life of an articulator driver mate at Sang during the celebration of the 2015 fire festival.

Mr Makandan made a passionate appeal to residents in the area, especially those at Sang-the district capital, to control their emotions in times when they are even provoked. He said such actions have the tendency of drawing the district developmental agenda back and called for maximum restraint among the people. The Mion DCE said emotional control and a high sense of restrain are the best ways in a civilized society even at the least provocation.

The Mion DCE also urged residents in the area to be guided by their religious and traditional beliefs, which all despise retaliation. Mr Makandan’s appeals follow the burning of the driver’s mate of an articulator truck during the 2015 fire festival at Sang.

The driver was from the Upper East region enroute to Zabzugu, when the incident happened. The driver was reported to have knocked down and killed one of the celebrants, angering the enthusiastic crowd.

Since the incident, the regent of Sang has been reporting to the police over the matter when he did not even take part in the celebration and might not have had a clue as to who the perpetrators were.

Addressing farmers at the 31st farmers Day celebration at Sambu, Mr Makandan said accidents are bound to happen and actions such as burning of the truck and a human being do not speak well of the people in the area.

According to him, instead of him soliciting supporting for the district, he is now answering questions almost on a daily basis about the unfortunate incident. The Mion DCE is therefore urging the elderly in the area to inculcate the spirit of forgiveness in the youth of the district.
