Nanton, Tamale south MPs win; Savelugu MP loses

The member of Parliament for Tamale South and minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu has retained his parliamentary bid to contest the 2016 general elections.

Haruna Iddrisu polled 12,362 votes to beat a senior lecturer of  the Tamale Polytechnic, Mr Aliu Mohammed popularly called One Man who had 1962 votes certified electoral commission results indicated.

In the Nanton constituency, incumbent member of parliament and deputy trade and industry minister, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed polled 4427 votes to beat Dr Salifu Yakubu who had 1478 votes, electoral commission official said.

The deputy northern regional minister and incumbent MP for Sagnarigu constituency, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini was also re-elected. He polled 6072 votes while Alhaji Mohammed Amin Adam. The only woman in the race, Hajia Hawawu Boaya polled 3372 votes.

The second time parliamentary hopeful for Zabzugu constituency, Mr Alhssan Umar made it this time around. He polled 4706 votes to beat the only contender, Nuru Francies who manage to garner 1960 votes.

In the Savelugu constituency, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area floored the ten years old member of parliament, Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo. Alhassan Abdulai Red had 2094 votes, Alhassan Iddrisu-2049 votes and Boforo polled 1,922 votes.

The Deputy Minister of Food and agriculture and member of parliament for Mion, Dr Ahmed Alhssan Yakubu suffers a defeat from two aspirant yet to yet to declared by the electoral commission as winner.

He was hotly contested by a medical Doctor, Mu-Awia Zakaria who donated a bran ambulance to the constituency two weeks to the polls.

Dr Mu-Awia polled 1,639 votes while Mohammed Abdul Aziz had 1,652 votes yet to be certified by the electoral commission. Both are said to be claiming victory and are in a coalition course.
