Suspect lynched over stealing of motor bike

A man believed to be in his 30s has been lynched in Lamashegu, in the Tamale south constituency of the northern region for allegedly stealing a motor bike.
The suspect was found dead on the pavements along Tamale-Kumasi road near the main State Transport Cooperation yard in the early hours on Wednesday July 4, 2012.  
It is not clear what might have caused the death of the young man who is suspected to be a Fulani by extraction. However, information gathered by Zaa News indicates that, he was suspected to be among a gang in the metropolis engaged in motor bike stealing which is on the increase in the Tamale metropolis in recent times.
Briefing the media at the scene, the metropolitan Police Commander, ACP Abanga Caesar appealed to residents to report any suspicious characters to the police and not to resort to instant justices.  ACP Abanga further appealed to residents to cooperate with the police in the discharge of their duties.
He also urged complainants to exercise restraint with the police and the legal system as due process must be followed.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital pending autopsy while police commence investigations into the incident.
