Tamale Children’s Home appeal to gov’t for support

The program Head of Children Rights, Protection and Promotion of the department of social welfare in the northern region, Anne Konlan is appealing to government to come to the aid of the only orphanage home in the region.

 

She said the Tamale Children Home located at Nyohini in the Tamale south constituency is in deplorable state and needs immediate attention by government and philanthropist to help protect the innocent children who through no fault of theirs found themselves at the home.

 

 

Madam Anne describes the home that houses the children at as death traps saying the buildings has  deep cracks on the walls  which needs serious attention by all stakeholders in child protection.

 

She said the safety of the children cannot be guaranteed because the home is not fenced and has resulted in some encroachment on the land.

 

Madam Anne made the appeal when the Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency, Iddrisu Haruna Fun Club donated some items worth over two hundred thousand Ghana cedis to the home today on behalf of the MP for Tamale south.

 

The items include toiletries, assorted drinks, learning materials sandals, biscuits mosquito sprayers, bags of rice and some clothing’s.

 

also mentioned weak baby cots and appealed to individuals assist the Tamale Children's home which houses more than  thirty orphans with the youngest being les two  months.

 

The department over the years has been struggling to mobilize thousand Ghana cedis to construct the fence, especially the main gate to the home.

 

She emphased that, security wise is not the best because the children cannot play outside the yard due to cattle invasion.

 

The home she said is currently being run by benevolent organizations and individuals and urged appealed to the public to support the home. The home according madam Anne is the only government home in the country that has not been  fenced. 

Madam Anne further stated that, the home is owing the Volta River Authority to the tune of thousand Ghana cedis, adding that with introduction of new prepaid meters, VRA may disconnect them which be a very serious problem to take care of the children. 

 

Presenting the items to the home, the president of Iddrisu Haruna Fun Club, Abdul-Hafiz Mohammed said the donation forms part of their social responsibility of assisting the youngsters in celebrating the club 10th anniversary.

 

Mr. Hafiz assured the home that their concerns will carry to the communication minister and MP whose jurisdiction is the MP’s constituency. He stated that the MP is someone who love children and would do all he could to support the home.
