There was clear panic among residents of the northern regional capital-Tamale when they sighted heavily armed members of the security agencies marching through some principal streets of the city early Thursday morning. The exercise which started at the city's Jubilee Park and formed part of the security agencies routine route march converged at the Tamale sports stadium. The residents’ fears were borne out by the armored cars and the dress code of especially the security agencies, the military and military police with guns ready for any eventuality.
For those who have never seen such displays by the various security agencies, they wondered why the heavy equipment was brought into Tamale from other parts of the country and the mission of the route march? For them, it was a preparation towards the December 7 elections, and also to send shivers down the spines of residents, particularly those in the 81 identified flash-points in the region.
