The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) has welcomed 197 farmers from the communities of Kpalsogu, Dimabi, Dundo, Tingoli, Cheyoni, Zulanyili, and Nyankpala to its newly established Technology Park. This hands-on visit introduced farmers to the latest agricultural innovations aimed at enhancing productivity and sustainability within the region.
Developed in collaboration with the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF), the CSIR-SARI Technology Park serves as a demonstration hub showcasing advanced farming solutions. During their visit, farmers interacted directly with CSIR-SARI experts, observed live demonstrations, and learned about practices such as precision farming, sustainable irrigation, and climate-resilient crop varieties.
The event highlighted CSIR-SARI’s commitment to practical education. Demonstrations covered new high-yield crop varieties, soil improvement methods, and environmentally sustainable techniques that help farmers boost productivity while preserving resources. The immersive, interactive setup enabled farmers to engage with the technologies firsthand, ask questions, and explore how to implement these innovations in their own fields.
Dr. Francis Kusi, Project Coordinator, emphasized the importance of these field visits in empowering farmers: “Our mission is to equip farmers with knowledge they can immediately apply to improve their yields and livelihoods. Through visits like these, we bridge the gap between research and real-world application, ensuring that farmers have the tools and information they need to thrive.”
Farmers expressed enthusiasm for the potential impact of the Technology Park on their farming practices. One farmer from Tingoli shared, “It’s inspiring to see new ways of farming that can improve our yields. Today’s visit gave us practical insights and hope for a better future in agriculture.”
This field visit underscores CSIR-SARI’s dedication to sustainable agricultural development, with ongoing support from CORAF to continue engaging farmers, providing training, and facilitating the adoption of innovative practices. By connecting farmers with cutting-edge research and technologies, CSIR-SARI aims to contribute to a more resilient and food-secure Ghana.
