Akufo-Addo’s birthday project at UDS abandoned due to a lack of funds.

A multipurpose administrative complex under construction at the Nyankpala campus of the University for Development Studies has been abandoned by the contractor.

The project, which is President Nana Akufo-Addo Aku’s birthday project, is about 90% complete but has come to a halt due to a lack of funds.

In 2018, the president pledged to provide UDS with state-of-the-art lecture halls and an office complex that is near completion, but due to a lack of funds, the contractor has left the site.

The project, when completed, will help address the problem of office accommodation for the various departments on the Nyankpala campus.

The Nyankpala campus runs a cultural and communication program, a school of veterinary nursing, animal science agriculture, and animal science, among others.

Most of the faculties have been struggling with office space, with the hope that when the Silver Jubilee complex is complete, there will be decent enough offices.
However, authorities say all efforts as of April 29, 2023, to get the contractor back on site have failed.

The project, which is so dear to the authorities, has been named by the academic board the “Silver Jubilee Complex” on the eve of the 23rd congregation.

“The project is a mighty one and a very admirable one; though the project is very near completion, the contractor has halted work due to a lack of funds’’, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged.

Professor Seidu explained that the board took the decision while waiting for the president to commission the building during the next congregation to be held in November 2023.

Speaking at the 23rd congregation at the Central Administration in Tamale, Vice Chancellor Professor Seidu Al-Hassan said management, with support from the University Council, is making frantic efforts to complete the project.

He made passionate appeals to the government through the Northern Regional Minister to help bring the contractor back to the site.
