Gbewaa Palace Reconstruction: Naa Yab Kug Naa inspects work on resettlement of affected houses.

The Dagbon Development Committee, led by its chairman, Naa Yab Kug Naa, paid a working visit to the resettlement site to inspect the progress of work. Construction work for 16 houses among those that will be affected by the reconstruction of the Gbewaa palace started a few months ago.

The committee is working hard to ensure that the resettlement plan is carried out smoothly without any burden on the affected people. The contractors engaged by the committee to build the houses are expected to be completed within three months.

The houses are currently at different levels of completion. The resettlement is part of a larger plan by the committee to pave the way for the construction of the new Gbewaa palace.

During the sod-cutting ceremony of the new palace, individuals and corporate entities made pledges of money and building materials to support the construction.

On May 22, 2023, the committee received 1000 bags of Dzata cement from the chief executive officer of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama.

The committee is still hoping to receive other commitments from those who made them.

Naa Yab Kug Naa Adam Abdulai thanked those who have supported the process so far and appealed to the sons and daughters of Dagbon Kingdom to support it.

Chairman of the local chapter resource mobilization for Gbewaa palace reconstruction, Alhaji Mahama Sherif Savannah, said dagbon development goes beyond the construction of the palace.

Alhaji Savanna explained that the kingdom needs good hospitals, schools, portable drinking water in most communities, and proper sanitary facilities.

Alhaji Sherif, an architect by profession, said after resettling the residents, construction of the new palace is expected to last a year, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

The Northern Regional Chairman of the Contractors Association of Ghana, Alhaji Baba Ibrahim, assured that their members engaged by the committee will deliver the work as expected.

He assured them that their association members would meet the timeline given them by the committee. One of the residents, Bawa Achiri, spoke on behalf of the people whose houses are under construction and commended the committee for providing the needed materials to the contractors.
