About fifty-eight (58) community members in the Northern Region have been trained in the best ways to effectively handle and treat the mentally-ill.
The training was provided by the Northern Traditional Healers Association (THA) in Tamale during it’s meeting with the community members.The training centered on how to handle cases of mental illness and epilepsy in the northern region.
The participants were advised to make good use of the knowledge gained from the programme. The Northern Regional Chairman of the association, Alhaji Fuseini pleaded with the members to be committed to their work.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Jacob Mahama spoke on deadly diseases and entreated members of the association to be very cautious when dealing with them.
The Executive Director of Gub-katimali Association, Sheikh Yakubu Abdul-Kareem, who facilitated the formation of the traditional healers association, said bythe habit of chaining and beating people with mental illness and epilepsy is against the law, adding that “networking is another way of bringing success to the traditional healers association”.
