Sabare No. 2 has been ravaged by a catastrophic flood, leaving homes and maize gardens submerged and displacing numerous residents. The deluge has forced many to seek refuge elsewhere as their homes and belongings were washed away by the rising waters.
In an act of compassion and solidarity, former Member of Parliament (MP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Zabzugu constituency, Hon. Alhassan Umar, visited the flood-stricken area. He was accompanied by the former District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Issifu Alidu Laa-Bandow, the Constituency Chairman, Alidu Bawa, and party members, Kpayas and Mahamoud Osman Baba. The delegation toured the devastated community, offering their support and assessing the damage.
During the visit, Hon. Alhassan Umar expressed sympathy for the affected residents, urging them to stay strong amidst the tragedy. “This disaster is beyond anyone’s control. As a public servant, I felt it was necessary to be here, to see for myself the extent of the damage and offer my support,” he said.
He also made a passionate appeal for immediate aid from the government, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and philanthropists. “We need urgent assistance for these residents, not just in cash, but in the form of shelter, clothing, and essential domestic items to help them through this difficult time,” Hon. Alhassan emphasized.
The residents, deeply moved by his visit, expressed their gratitude. Their leader remarked, “It is in times of difficulty that you truly know those who care for you. We are grateful for the empathy shown by Hon. Alhassan and his team.”
Hon. Alhassan Umar and his entourage inspected submerged properties, traveling by canoe to witness the extent of the destruction. The sight of submerged homes and destroyed livelihoods stirred an emotional plea for action. “We cannot let this disaster leave a lasting scar on the people, both mentally and physically. Let us come together and provide the necessary support,” he urged.
The residents of Sabare No. 2 now anxiously await assistance from the government, organizations, and compassionate individuals to help them rebuild their homes and lives after the devastation.
