One person has been shot dead in a crossfire with police in the troubled town of kpatinga in the Gushegu Municipality of the Northern Region.
The incident occurred on Sunday 26th, 2020 at about 8am.
According to the police, about 20 young men wilding AK 47 refles and others with single barrel guns open fire at police patrol at kpatinga when the men arrived at particular area in the community to law and order, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko told the media.
The securitymen, DSP Yussif Tanko said were alerted that some houses has been set on fire and upon their arrival, the police were met with open gunfire comeppling the police to replied and one person short dead while another sustained gun injuries and 3 arrested.
The decease, Alhassan Abass, a 55-year-old traditional healer the police caught up in crossfire between security officers and young men.
Five weapons DSP Tanko said have been retrieved. Those arrested according to the him have been detained to assist in further investigations.
‘As soon as they sense the approach of the police, they short towards the police compelling the police to also return fire’ DSP Tanko said.
The injured the police have been taken to hospital while the dead conved to the hospital.
DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko told the media that the police and military presence will continue to be on the ground and work to ensure that innocent people are protected.
He appealed to residents in and around the area with information about any person whose activities which threatened the peace there should report to the security for necessary actions to be taken.
