Twelve persons have been arrested by the combined team of police and military with six single barrel guns at Nambiri a Chorkosi community in the Chereponi District of the North Eastern Region. The suspects, olice said, were arrested at about 12.00 hours on Friday.
The team was in the community as part of their usual patrols and fact finding endeavours when they chanced on one person wielding a single barrel gun.
Northern regional police spokesman, DSP Yussif Tanko told the media that the suspect took to his heels when he saw the patrol team but was chased down and arrested.
The team, DSP Tanko explained then decided to conduct searches in the community where the weapons were retrieved and their owners arrested to assist in investigations.
Six of the suspects who had no exhibits according to police spokesman were released on police enquiry bail. The remaining suspects have been detained in Yendi. Meanwhile, both the Konkombas and the Chorkosi communities remained calm and relatively peaceful.
The military and police patrols couple with extensive community engagement on the need to allow peace to reign.
