The committee of three eminent chiefs mediating the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis has suspended discussions on the performance of the funerals of the late Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and the late Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II.
The suspension is as a result of a case pending at the Court of Appeal in Tamale over the performance of the funeral of Naa Mahamadu. The Asantehene Otumfor Osei Tutu II, chairman of the committee, announced the suspension last Saturday at a crucial meeting between both sides at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The committee had invited the Andani and the Abudu families, the two feuding factions in the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis to deliberate on the performance of the funerals.
But the Asantehene said the lawyer of the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Andani served the committee a letter, reminding it that the case of the Yendi skin and the performance of the funeral rites of Naa Mahamadu is pending at the Court of Appeal in Tamale.
Zaa News’s Saani Mohammed Lukman who was at the meeting described it as very tense. There was heavy security by both military and police, Luqman reported
There were suspicions that the eminent chiefs were going to render their verdict on the matter, and the rumors created anxiety among both sides who were at Manhyia palace.
