The construction of a building for the Ibrahim Mahama Foundation commenced at the weekend near our Lady of Fatima Basic Schools at Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.
Speaking to Zaa News at the sod-cutting ceremony, the chairman of the foundation, Kasuli Tibogu Naa, Alhassan Iddrisu Sulemana, called for all hands to be on deck for the successful execution and completion of the project in good time.
He reiterated that the current 297 members of the foundation have been committed to unleashing the ideas of Lawyer Ibrahim Mahama and called on all to celebrate and pray for long life for the academic guru.
He added that it would immortalize the ideas of Lawyer Mahama in areas of education, agriculture, culture and so on and inspire future generations to follow the lawyer’s footsteps.
Tibogunaa likened the edifice to a mosque because everybody can use it. He said the foundation was registered in 2013 and would cost eighty thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢80,000.00). It would comprise a library, a computer laboratory and a meeting hall.
On his part, the renowned legal luminary, Alhaji Ibrahim Mahama said a great man is not judged by how long he lives on earth but by his deeds. Alhaji Mahama urged the youth to give their quota to society, no matter how small it may be.
Some of the distinguished personalities who graced the occasion were mainly chiefs and included: the Kasulilana, Vonaa, Sagnari’ Naa, Datalung Lana, Choggu Naa, Jongnaa and Nyaanshe’ Naa.
The rest were Lawyer Mohammed Mumuni, Lawyer Mohammed Alhassan Terror, the Principal of Tamale College of Education (TACE), Dr Sulemana Iddrisu and the former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and ex-MP for the Nanton constituency, Ibrahim Murtala.
Lawyer Ibrahim Mahama has authored several books, both in Dagbani and in English and these collections would be archived in the library of the foundation.
Cash donations received at the event amounted to GH¢ 2,642.90 and pledges made totaled GH¢2,000.00. Other donations included 4 trips of sea-sand and 220 bags of cement. The event was chaired by the Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr. Mohammed Harun Cambodia.
