Employ the services of health coordinators to see to the safety of students and staff in SHSs – Public Health expert
A Public health Specialist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Alhaji Tahiru Mustapha has entreated government to assign schools to various hospitals to respond to the health needs of students.
According to him, government needs to employ the services of health coordinators who will see to the safety of students and staff.
Speaking on Zaa Major News, Alhaji Tahiru noted government is not making good use of public health specialists in the country despite their huge numbers. His comments come after some schools in the country recorded cases of Covid-19.
He noted that constant monitoring by these specialists will help in the fight of the covid-19 pandemic.
“We are many in the country, they’re not making good use of the public health specialists, government should give these schools to specialists in this area, and their consistent monitoring will help the situation”, he said.
He however stressed that safety protocols be strengthen in various schools to limit the spread of the virus.
Speaking on the same program on the effects of covid-19 on the mental being of students especially those preparing for their final examination, Head of Mental Health unit at the TTH, Larbi David noted the situation will affect the studies of students such that they will not be in the right frame of mind to study, with the fear of who is left to get infected.
“The fear of who is left to get infected or test positive is something that is going to increase the anxiety level of these students”, Mr. David said.
He said students should come to terms that covid-19 is real and practice all safety protocols outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ghana Health Service (GHS).
“I think students should come to terms with this covid-19, they should know that this covid-19 has come, it’s been declared a global pandemic and the earlier they do this it will go a long way to manage their stress level as far as any anxiety the stress could bring”, he said.
Mr. David also encouraged parents to constantly keep in touch with their wards by all means in order to be in a right frame of mind to take away the stress and fears they might be going through. He also asked that parents support their actions with prayer.
