The former president, Mr. John Dramani Mahama has presented some relief items to the overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Nayiri Mahami Bohagu Sheiriga in Nalerigu.
The items comprised of 150 bags of cement and unspecified amount of money.
The donation was to help reconstruct the palace which was guttered by fire two weeks ago. According to authorities, the fire started on Saturday afternoon and swept through the overlord’s bedroom, reducing everything into ashes. The king reportedly lost properties including some key chieftaincy monuments valued at thousands of Ghana cedis.
Mr. Abdallah Abubakari, the former northern regional minister presented the donation on behalf of Mr. Mahama. Present at the ceremony were: the former minister of Food and Agriculture Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna, former roads and highways minister and MP for Tamale Central-Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, a former presidential staffer-Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini and the Northern Regional Chairman of the opposition NDC, Sofo Azoka.
Mr Abdallah told the Nayiri that Mr. Mahama was shocked by news of the fire and wish he was personally there to see the damage caused by the inferno. Mr. Mahama consoled the Mamprugu overlord and prayed that such an incident never occurs again.
The Nayiri told the Mr. Mahama’s delegation that even though he was around at the time of the incident, no one was hurt by the fire said to have been caused by a power surge.
The Nayiri commended the people of Nalerigu who took it upon themselves to fight the fire before the arrival of fire fighters of the Ghana National Fire Service.
The Nayiri expressed his gratitude to the former president for his concern in commiserating with him and the people of the Mamprugu kingdom.
