Government of Ghana is investing $2 billion dollars in the roads sector in the country.
Out of the amount, 1.5 billion is going into construction of roads. Roads and highways minister, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Attah announced this during the sod cutting ceremony of the Tamale inter-change in Tamale.
The two interchanges, one in Tamale and the other, the Takoradi PTC roundabout are to be executed with an amount of 500 US million dollars. He added the two interchanges in the two cities are to be completed with 441 kilometers roads.
Over 70 different important identifiable road projects will also benefit from the Sinohydro agreement. The two inter changes, according to the minister will among other things reduce the perennial congestion being experienced in the central business district of Tamale and also avoid congestion of transit vehicles.
The Chinese ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang assured that the People’s Republic of China will continue to assist Ghana to improve the infrastructure sector in the country.
According to Ambassador Wang, Chinese trade investment inflows amounted to 1.6 billion US dollars in 2017. China trade in terms of volume in 2018 was estimated at 7. 2 billion US dollars.
The overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari Mahama II has commended the government for bringing such huge project to Tamale.
The Ya Naa whose message was delivered by the paramount chief of Sagnarigu traditional area, Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu assured the president of the support of the people of Dagbon for the successful execution of the interchange project and expressed the hope that more of such will be in the pipeline. Dagbon, he said was most grateful to the government for peace and its associated benefits.
