The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has commended practicing journalists for helping the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in ensuring peace in the region.
The government and the REGSEC recognized the professionalism exhibited and are full in support of any activities of the GJA, the minister noted.
The minister said the role of journalists during the implementation of the Dagbon peace process was remarkable and urged the journalists to continue to use their power to promote peaceful coexistence.
Mr Saeed says the government has recognized the professionalism exhibited during the hard times in Dagbon, especially in areas with protracted chieftaincy disputes.
Speaking as the guest of honour for the official launch of the Ghana Journalist Northern Region Chapter Maiden Awards, the minister was full of hope for the future of the region and Dagbon as a whole.
According to him, the reporting on chieftaincy and its related issues by journalists in the region reassures REGSEC that the media role in promoting peace is crucial and assured journalists of government’s support.
He reminded journalists that peace is very relevant in the work they do and therefore the need for them to be champions of peace.
There were juicy news during the two royal funerals in Dagbon but the journalists decided not to report them, Mr Saeed recounted.
