An aspiring NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Tamale Central Constituency Alhassan Adam has expressed worry over what he describes as practical difficulty in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise across the country.
He said many Ghanaians including the NDC had anticipated and highlighted this difficulty and called for the exercise to be conducted at the various electoral areas. The Electoral Commission (EC), Alhaji Adam indicated failed to listen to the voice of reasoning, leading to the crowds and confusions recorded at the various districts EC offices across the country.
The EC last Monday begun a Limited Voters’ Registration exercise nationwide, to register Ghanaians who have turned 18 since the last registration as well as those who, for one reason or another, have never registered to do so.
This follows the dismissal of an injunction application which sought to restrain the Commission from undertaking the exercise. The exercise which forms part of the EC’s preparations towards the conduct of the 2019 district level election, is expected to end on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
But Alhaji Adam believes an additional 30 days will not even enough to capture all new registrants and called for additional registration centres in the Tamale Central Constituency. Alhaji Adam since the commencement of the process, provider means of transport as well as lunch for new registrants.
