The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says it will continue its efforts to engage the public on the Cylinder Re-circulation Model (CRM).
The CRM is a model for the National Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Policy aimed at providing direction for marketing and LPG in a safe and efficient manner, to facilitate an increase in access to LPG nationwide.
It is expected to help achieve the policy goal which is to ensure that at least 50% of Ghanaians have access to safe, clean and environmentally-friendly LPG for domestic, commercial and industrial usage by 2030.
The NPA has licensed five LPG marketing Companies to undertake the Cylinder Re-circulation Model. The marketing companies under the Cylinder Re-circulation Model will be responsible for the distribution of already filled LPG Cylinders to consumers.
They will also be responsible for the purchasing and branding of the cylinders. Per the model, the Cylinders will be filled at a point, and transported to the marketing companies for onward sale to consumers.
Speaking at the regional public engagement forum in Tamale, the Chief Executive Officer of NPA, Mr Alhassan Tampuli gave an assure that contrary to speculations of the policy making people loss their jobs, it will rather lead to enormous job creation across the various value chain.
The NPA CEO told stakeholders that Ghana in 2018, consumed over 288,328 kilograms of LPG. The Northern region accounted for 4% of the total national consumption of LPG of which only 1% is attributed to the Upper East region.
This, Mr Tampuli said shows that there is more room for LPG usage in the Northern region to protect the vegetative cover.
