One person remanded into police custody over Tamale Central riots; 3 on the run

A Tamale resident is cooling his heels in police custody following his arrest over yesterday’s rampage of the Tamale central constituency by some aggrieved NDC youth.

Sulemana Kindeya, a 45-year old former employee of the National Disaster Management Organization Tamale metro, alleged to be one of the ring leaders, was arrested by the Tamale metropolitan police command.

A district court one presided over by Mr. Augustine Essah ordered that Tungtiiya be remanded in police custody. The court has also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of three others over their involvement in the incident.

Tungtiiya has been charged with causing unlawful damage to public property and rioting. He pleaded not guilty and will reappear in court on Monday, the 14th of this month.

Some angry youth of the NDC believed to be supporters of failed parliamentary candidate of the Tamale central constituency, Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu, went on a rampage, burning the elected candidate, Alhaji Fuseini Inusah’s banners over allegations that, he Inusah masterminded the purported sacking of their favourite, Seidu.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Zaa News that the police have mounted a search for the other three suspects.
