The Municipal Chief Executive (M.C.E) for Saveligu-Nantong Municipality, Alhassan Abdulai Red has appealed to youth groups to inculcate the habit of loving peace.
The MCE who is also the NDC parliamentary candidate for the this year’s election made the appeal during the inauguration of the Savelugu-Nanton Youth Network for Development held at Doku, near Savelugu on Sunday. The ceremony was on the theme; “Fostering Peace and Unity among Youth for Sustainable Development”.
Topical issues discussed at the inauguration were the need for peaceful co-existence and sustainable peace in Savelugu-Nantong Municipality, and the Northern Region at large.
The Savelugu Youth Network for peace was established in December 2004 with the aim of strengthening quality and relevant economic empowerment of the youth through proactive learning of entrepreneurial and business skills and to organise job fairs, career guidance counseling among others. Addressing the youth, Mr. Abdulai Red emphasized on peace stating that love on one hand brings peace and peace on the other hand brings development.
The founding father of the youth, Fusheini Yahaya explained that, the network was created for peace to prevail in the area, saying that peace is the bed-rock for development.
Meanwhile, Kanshenaa Mahama Amadu, the guest of honor at the meeting cautioned the youth to be mindful about their misinterpretation of free speech which the constitution guarantees every citizen.
Naa Amadu said the misinterpretation of such crucial constitutional provisions has the tendency of creating chaos and anarchy across the country and the youth need to be cautious of their utterances as the country head towards election period 2016.
