The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed officials of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to stop using their personal email addresses to transact official business of their Assemblies.
The practice, the committee observed, was wrong and has the tendency of frustrating the smooth running of the day-to-day businesses especially when there is a change of political administration.
PAC members at the second sitting in Tamale to examine the 2015-2016 audit report by the Auditor General, advised MMDCEs and their coordinating directors to adhere to government directive for all MMDAs and ministries, departments and agencies to use email addresses which end with dot gov dot gh (example; info@miondistrict.gov.gh) and also official telephone numbers. The committee members made the observation after examining the Sissala East district assembly.
A member of of the committee and member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, Mr. Sam George, who first raised the issue could not understand why a letterhead of the assembly will bear the coordinating director’s personal telephone number.
Member of parliament for Kumbungu also took serious exception with the Assemblies for not using official email addresses and telephone numbers.
