The king of Dagbon, HIS MAJESTY YA-NA ABUKARI II, has held a close-door meeting with Saboba Na Uchabobor Bowan John Masteer Sakojim IV, a paramount chief of the Konkomba and the Cheriponi Fame-Pastor Ndakar Jaminja a paramount chief of the Anufo who are both members of Dagbon Traditional Council over the conflict in their areas.
The chiefs were at the Gbewaa palace together with the District Chief Executives for Saboba and Cheriponi.
His Majesty summoned the two feuding factions revered chiefs to the Gbewaa palace and told them to prevail on the two ethnic groups to exercise restraint in the unfolding ethnic conflict.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the Ya-Na Abdul-Rahaman Mohammed reminded them that Eastern Dagbon has a reputation as a perpetual inter-tribal conflict area.
With his rise to the Dagbon throne, he wants the area to be an island of peace. He told the chiefs and the District Chief Executives that their localities are among the least developed areas in the country and they should allow peace to prevail to enable the Government bring to the areas development.
Without peace, he told them, there can be no development. He reminded the chiefs and the two District Chief Executives that education is the key to development and with “this uncalled for disturbance in the area all schools are temporarily closed down.”
The Overlord of Dagbon also called on the leadership of Konkomba and Anufo in the Country and elsewhere to assist the chiefs in the conflict area to nib the violence about to start in the bud.
He called on the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and his government to take a close watch at the security situation in the area.
