Government has pleaded with residents in the Zabzugu and Tatale districts of the northern region to exercise little patience as the construction of the terrible road network in the area will be taken up with a renewed commitment.

Government says, it cannot disappoint the people in the eastern corridor and that it is still committed to making roads in that part of the country accessible.

The minister of roads and highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini stated this at the celebration of Zabzugu Senior High School 25th anniversary and first prize and speech giving day.

Government assurance follows complaints of residents about the bad state of the Yendi-Zabzugu and Tatale roads which residents say have been neglected by successive governments.

“If you look at the eastern corridor, you will see that government is developing the roads sector,”Alhaji Inusah said.

Responding to concerns raised by residents of Zabzugu district and its surrounding areas about the bad nature of the roads, the roads minister assured them that the roads in question will be tarred under a world bank facility in 2017. The bank has agreed to finance the construction of the road which originates from Togo, Alhaji Inusah said.

Construction of five kilometers Zabzugu township roads beginning from Mantile community to Zabzugu township have begun and is expected to end in December.

The roads minister who was a guest speaker at the function had to use the road and invariably experienced first hand the hassle that motorists go through on that stretch of highway, He subsequently assured chiefs and people of Zabzugu that the world bank has facilitated the construction of the Yendi- Zabzugu-Tatale road up to the Togo barrier because it is a major trade facilitating route.

Construction of the road, the sector minister said will start in two months time to alleviate the suffering of motorists along that stretch.
