The chief of Sagnairgu, Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu has urged the sagnarigu district assembly to clean waste that engulfs his area before the National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise.
The Sagnarigu chief is particular worried about the rubbish around the Bagabaga Anext Junior High School along the main road leading to the community.
He said he and his people’s participation will largely depend on the commitment of the assembly especially in cleaning the district before the local government minister arrives in Tamale.
Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu also made passionate appealed to government officials not to use the National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise as a photo shop but an effort to ensuring proper sanitation practices in the various communities.
Speaking to the media at his palace in Sagnarigu ahead of the February 7 exercise, the Sagnarinaa said the relevance of sanitation cannot be underestimated and added that his people will play their role and it behoves on the state to also made arrangement for the collection of waste to a designated disposal point.
The Sagnarigu chief also called on the people of the northern region to come out in their numbers of first Saturday and participate in the exercise. Ambassador Abdulai said the sanitation is about everybody’s interest and participation in the exercise will go a long way to improving health.
He also wants the assemblies to prevent burning of rubbish in the communities because it emits toxic gasses which are dangerous to the people’s health.
Meanwhile, the Sagnarigu District Assembly says it is ready for the national sanitation exercise scheduled on February 7 in the northern region. The assembly is after engaging major stakeholders in the district are now relating sanitation messages to pupils at the various basic schools in the area.
The assembly as part of its week-long plans of the day will tomorrow engage security services to strategies on how to tackle the exercise at the district level.
District chief executive for the area, Alhassan Mohammed Sorigudoo in an interview with the media in Sagnarigu ahead of the day announced that, tomorrow first February marks the beginning of the exercise and urged all institutions and individuals to make the exercise a success.
On the preparedness of the district, Alhassan Mohammed Sogurudoo assured that his outfit is logistically prepared for the exercise and will from tomorrow start collecting heaps of rubbish in the area.
He hinted that the assembly will enforce its sanitation by-laws especially on recalcitrant people who deliberately refuse to pay heed to the assembly’s directives.
