The Association of Teacher Trainees in Colleges of the Northern Sector (ATTRICONS) has appealed to Government to name Gambaga College of Education as the 39th Public College of Education in the Country.
The sector President of ATTRICONS Mr Mbugri Solomon Ndedaug made the appeal at a Press Conference organised by ATTRICONS in Gambaga of the East Mamprugu District.
Mr Mbugri said it has been the desire of the Government to establish 10 new Colleges of Education in needy Communities of the Country.
He said the initiative by the Chiefs, the District Assembly and the people of Gambaga is a step in the right direction to meet this desire.
He said the President at a durbur grounds at Nayiri Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdullai the 2nd on 17th of January this year made it clear that he had issued a directive to the Ministry of Education to absorb the College as a fully fledged public institution of learning.
He added that it is therefore amazing how the President's directive will take such a long time to be acted upon.
Even though the College has obtained accreditation from the National Accreditation Board and affiliated to the University of Cape Coast for assessment, monitoring and award of certificates it is still not recognized as a Government Institution hence facing Challenges like poor infrastructure, the feeling of isolation from sister Colleges and doubts about the legality of the institution.
He added that the College started with a population of 310 Teacher Trainees now reduced to 293 since they couldn't settle for the fees.
