The Northern Regional Minister, Alhajji Mohammed- Muniru Limuna has appealed to District Assemblies to collaborate with Traditional Rulers and the Ghana E ducation Service (GES) to put in place measures and policies that would help address the falling standards of Education in the Region.
Alhaji Limuna made the appeal at a two day workshop organized by the Northern Regional Cordinating Council in collaboration with IBIS Ghana and School for Life on theme “Enhancing Education Delivery in the Northern Region; The way forward”. He urged teachers to change their attitude to education delivery since lateness; absenteeism and truancy on the part of teachers are the major factors confronting the delivery of quality Education.
But the Northern Regional Director of Education, Paul Apanga has the solution. He said the regional directorate has identified and earmarked about 2,000 teachers in the Tamale metropolis and the Sagnerigu District to be re-posted to schools lacking trained teachers since the Metropolis is over staffed with teachers in the Basic schools which has accounted for the teacher absenteeism and truancy in the Schools.
He said the region needs more than 7,652 teachers to occupy the various schools to help improve on the academic performance, hence the need to repost such teachers to the other communities where their services are most needed.
He also called on the various district assemblies to initiate programmes to fund and sponsor the education of trainee personnel to guarantee that such personnel will be posted to their communities upon completion.
