Police in the Northern Region have warned that it will deal ruthlessly with anyone trying to create anarchy in the Tamale metropolis. The police also warned that any person found with weapons will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
The warning follows the death of one Alhassan Nazeru who was shot and killed at his house in Sagnarigu 8th March 10, 2014 by unidentified gun men. The late Alhassan Naziru was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital but could not survive. He was pronounced dead on 10th March 10, 2014.
A youth group in Tamale called Aboabo Kandaha Youth Association linked to the New Patriotic Party claim Alhassan Naziru was their member and issued a ten hours ultimatum to the security in Tamale to arrest the perpetrators.
The Kandaha youth claims their members have been targeted by some suspected gun men in Tamale metropolis. The secretary of the group, Umar Anyass Gazale mentioned the 8th March incident that lead to the death of Naziru to buttress their claims.
’’We as members of Kandaha boys are fully ready to defend our lives; we are also ready to defend this metropolis that it is if the security fails to arrest one Dela Say’’ Gazale stated. ’’We are appealing to the security agencies once again; failure on their part to arrest the suspects will lead to instability and threat to what they described as minor peace that residents currently enjoying’’ Kandaha boys stated.
Moments after the strong worded statement was issued, the police started received distressed calls by some residents about disturbances in the Aboabo area of the Tamale metropolis.
The Public relations of the northern regional police command ASP Ebenezer Tetteh ended his conversation with journalists after unbearable distress calls by residents for protection and rushed arm police to the area.
The disturbances started through the burning of lorry tyres and later turn violent leading to the death a gentlemen yet to be identified.
Commenting on the Kandaha youth statement, the police PRO said the language used by the youth was too bad and that it the content was full of threats. ’’What prevented them from give the names of the suspects to the police so that the police can act on’’ ASP Tetteh quiz Kandaha youth.
Meanwhile, combined team of police and the military have taken over the place and are currently patrolling the Aboabo. ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the second deceased who was suspected to have been shot dead body has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
