The newly elected Northern Regional Chairman of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tugu Yapala Naa Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila, has called on all failed and elected aspirants in the just ended regional delegates congress of the NDC to rally behind him to lead the party to victory in the 2020 general elections.

Victory for the NDC, Alhaji Mobila said, should be the topmost priority of both elected executives and non-executives.

The three time NDC chairmanship aspirant defeated his closest rival, Mr. Godfred Apasinaba Wumbei, popularly called Yellowman by 96 votes.

The 80-year-old commercial farmer polled 493, representing 50% of the valid votes cast, while Mr. Wumbei (Yellow) polled 397 votes, representing 41% of the votes cast.

Alhaji Mobila will be assisted by two elected vice chairpersons, Alhaji Hassan Rufai Ahmed Vellim, a contractor, and a former DCE for Saboba, Mr. Adolf Ali.

A former DCE for central Gonja, Mr. Salisu Be-Awuribe was elected as regional secretary, while his former colleague the DCE for West Gonja Mr. Kassim Bakari Ali was also elected the NDC’s northern regional treasurer.

The only old executive who retained his position was the communication director, Mr. Abdul Mumin Fuseini Alhassan.

A professional teacher, Hajia Jamila Amadu defeated seven men who contested the Zongo Caucus coordinator with 251, representing 26% of the valid votes cast.

Alhaji Mobila entreated all aspirants who did not win their positions to put the party’s interest first before anything.

The new chairman reiterated his commitment to working with everyone in the party and promised to continue to be a father for all, no matter their political affiliation. He reminded party members that the NDC needs to be united in order to recapture all parliamentary seats in the northern region.

Thanksgiving Service: After a successful conduct of the elections, a thanksgiving ceremony was  held at the NDC regional office, under the auspices of the newly elected regional chairman.

The thanksgiving ceremony was attended by both the winners and losers of the contest to thank Allah for the successful and incident- free delegates conference held on Saturday.

The council of elders and the big wigs of the party took turns to appeal to all members for unity with the goal of ensuring that the NDC returns to power in the 2020 general elections.

They also urged all camps to put the party’s interest first before any other personal interest. Victory at the next election resonated throughout the ceremony, with enthusiastic supporters promising to chase the governing NPP government out of power, come 2020.

The chairman- elect, Alhaji Mobila told the gathering that the NDC, as a family won and not an individual executive.

Increasing the electoral fortunes for presidential and parliamentary, Alhaji Mobila said, should be the utmost priority of every NDC member in the region. He said his main aim is to ensure that the northern region remains the world bank of the NDC and all parliamentary seats won by the NDC.

He also promised to operate an open door administration, with suggestions to better the party’s chances in all elections.
