Students in the northern region have been urged to eschew division and other distractions that could negatively impact them and their alma-mater.
Making the call at the 25th anniversary and first speech and prize-giving day at Kalpohini Senior High School on Wednesday, a chartered accountant, Alhaji Dr. Zakaria told students that their mindset and determination to achieve excellence should stand taller than all other ambitions.
The celebration was on the theme: 25 years of community-based secondary education: success and challenges. The current Kalpohin Senior High school was known as Kalpohin middle school.
It was later converted into a junior secondary school. In 1990-91, the junior secondary school was also converted into Kalpohini secondary school which is now known as Kalpohin senior high school (KASS).
A team of nine teachers led by the pioneer headmaster, Mr.E.N Galyouni, managed the affairs of the new secondary school which had an initial enrollment of 182 students. In 2001, a total of 2,303 had qualified for tertiary institutions to pursue higher education.
The school now has a total population of about 1,782 students. Dr. Abdul-Malik who is a traditional ruler, a business tycoon and a guest speaker at his alma mater, further appealed to students not to stretch party politics to nauseating levels as the country approaches the 2016 general elections and when people equate politics with enmity.
Meanwhile some students, former headteachers as well as the longest serving staff and non-teaching staff were presented with citations and gifts.
The occasion was attended by some chiefs, district chief executives, the MP for Tamale North and headmasters from various senior high schools in the region.
