Forteen (14) persons are in the grips of the Northern Regional police on suspecions of pedling drugs.
The 14 were rounded up in a joint police and military operation on 12 October 2019. The exercise forms part of efforts by the security agencies to clamp down on drugs peddlers within the Tamale metropolis.
The exercise is also expected to get rid of wee smokers and other criminal activities which has created insecurity among residents in recent times.
Northern Regional Crime Officer, Supritendent Mr Otou Achampong who disclosed this to Zaa News said a total of 40 Police officers and 24 Military officers in six service vehicles were involved. Fourteen suspects were arrested, some of whom had he said quantities of dried leaves suspected to be indian hemp.
Eighteen unregistered motorbikes the crime officer added were retrieved.
Before court
The suspects on 14 October 2019, were arraigned before the Tamale District Court presided over by Mr Seidu Amadu.
Four of them including two students, one female and one epileptic were granted on bail.
The remaining ten accused persons were remanded into prison custody to reappear on 17 October 2019.
