The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Mines, Mr George Mireku Duker has charged the newly constituted lands commission board in the North East Region (NER) to acquaint themselves with relevance sections of all land laws especially, the new lands Act, 1038 passed by the 7th parliament.
The Act, Mr Mireku said when properly read by members will enable them discharge their duties effectively and bring lands administration to the doorsteps to the people.
The deputy minister who was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of 13- board members of lands commission for the north east region at Nalerigu tasked them to pay special attention to areas such as creating necessary atmosphere for investors into agriculture for food and agric-based industrial activities in line with government policy of planting for food and jobs.
The supervising High Court Judge for Northern, Savannah and North East regions, His Lordship Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah sworn-in the members.
The new land Act (2020), Act 1036 Mr Mireku explained seeks to revise, harmonized and consolidate the laws of lands to ensure sustainable land administration and management. He expressed the hope that the new law will guide all lands commission board members across the country.
The land management regime over the years he said is engulfed with several challenges including weak institutional capacity, inadequate legislative framework and perceived corruption which negatively affect service delivery.
The deputy lands and natural resource minister also reminded the commission members to be mindful to the ongoing government projects including geared at creatin jobs for the unemployed youth.
He advised the new lands commission to effectively collaborate with allied institution such as the Land used and Spatial Planning Authority, forestry commission, Environmental Agency and the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region.
