Industrial Relation Officer of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Tamale Branch, Alhaji Mashud Salifu has made a passionate appeal to the National Petroleum Authority to reduce the price of fuel as prices decreases at the world market.
“What we want is the National Petroleum Authority should come out and give a directive to all the marketing companies to reduce the price of fuel at a percentage so that the National level will take it up and ensure that if there is a need for us or the transporters to reduce their fares, for now it is affecting the transporters and we have been asked to reduce the sitting capacity of our sitting arrangements”, Alhaji Salifu stressed.
According to him, the directive from the President to practice social distancing by reducing the number of passengers in vehicles is a problem since the prices of fuel remain the same.
He stated that, as part of their corporate social responsibility to mitigate the spread of the virus, National Petroleum Authority should reduce the prices of fuel to enable drivers to also reduce the number of passengers in their vehicles.
Alhaji Mashud Salifu further urged government and the National Petroleum Authority to take their plight seriously to prevent economic hardship on Ghanaians.
