The Northern Regional Director of National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) in the northern region Alhaji Saani Abdul-Razak has called on youth to be ambassadors of peace. Development he said, cannot be achieved without peace.
He made the call during the inauguration and handing over ceremony of executives of the League of Youth Association in Tamale.
The League of Youth Association is a coalition of all youth Associations in Tamale and beyond seeking to create an enabling environment for peaceful co-existence and youth development.
The association was formed in 1994 with a number of 14 groups. By 1998 the number of youth groups increased to 86 and by the year 2000 the groups went up to 94. After a series of developmental activities and intervention in critical situations, its activities were halted due to instability in the northern region.
As a result of extensive consultation, the youth groups within the Tamale Metropolis decided to rejuvenate the league of youth association to help foster peace, unity and youth development in the northern region.
According to Alhaji Saani development depends on the efforts of individual attitude. ‘’Nation building cannot be achieved without knowledge’’, he added. He further lamented about the poor performance of students in the region and appealed for the involvement of women in decision making.
Alhaji Saani advised the youth to devoid of partisan politics as we journey into the election period. The District Chief Executive of Sagnarigu district Alhasan Mohammed Sorigudoo who represented Northern Regional Minister reminded the youth to be cautious over their actions and also use the association to impact positively on society.
The newly elected President of the Association Abu Inusah said the activities of the association is to see to it that other youth groups in the metropolis behave well.
