NDC Board member advises delegates ahead of constituency elections

A board member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Hudu Yahaya has advised delegates of the party to choose “competent and capable” persons who can push the party’s agenda at the local level, as the NDC prepares for its constituency elections this weekend.

According to him, choosing the right executives to lead the party at the constituency level will put the NDC in a good position to reclaim power in 2020. Alhaji Hudu stated: “As you go to the polls, endeavor to elect competent and capable persons loyal to the party and not based on individual interests. The destiny of the party depends on the decisions you make this weekend and I have absolute confidence that you will give the party the best set of executives who will lead us to victory 2020.”

He expressed concerns about how some groups of persons go into politics for their parochial interests rather than to serve the people who elect them to power. He called on all stakeholders to ensure a level-playing field for all aspirants to make the process credible and acceptable by all.

According to him, politics is to protect the rights and justice of the people when necessary, saying there must be freedom for the people in accordance with the law to access the country’s resources.

Political leaders, he noted, should make power and leadership accessible to the people. Ignorance, Alhaji Hudu emphasized, must be reduced to the barest minimum as well as the availability and accessibility of education, and health to the people, adding that accountability is an important key in leadership.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), will this weekend go to the polls to elect constituency executives in all but 16 constituencies across the country. Alhaji Hudu was optimistic that the NDC will win power in the 2020 elections.
