NE/R: The Nayiri appeals to government to ‘fix their roads’
The Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga has appealed to President Nana Akufo Addo to consider tarring some major roads in the North East region to facilitate movement of goods and services.
“It is my humble request for the tarring of the Nalerigu-Bunkpurigu-Cheriponi road to facilitate the movement of people and goods. A similar intervention is needed to complete the tarring of the Fumbishi-Yagaba-Kubori road. Another stretch of road so dear to the people is the Wulugu-Kpasenkpe-Kunkwa road.”
He expressed worry over the perennial challenges passengers and residents are subjected to during the raining season and wants the President to pay some attention to the roads to help boost economic development in the area.
“The tarring of these roads will help reduce traveling time and also boost economic activities in the affected areas.”
He made the request during this year’s Damba festival which was also an occasion for the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of offices for the Regional Coordinating Council at the forecourt of the Nayiri’s palace, Nalerigu in the North East region.
The Nayiri however thanked the NPP government for the award of Janga-Nasima-Kparigu road on contract while he expressed satisfaction with the construction works ongoing to tar the Walewale, Gambaga and Nalerigu town roads. He was hopeful that similar works would be done in Bunkpurugu, Yunyoo, Cheriponi and Yagaba pretty soon.
The overlord also called on government to consider splitting the East and West Mamprusi Municipal Assemblies into two administrative districts respectively for accelerated development.
Representing the President was the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who underscored that government has a special plan to accelerate development in all the newly created regions with an appeal to the people to exercise patience with the government as it does that.
He promised that several key roads will also be constructed in the region with most to commence before the end of the year.
Accompanying the Vice President were the Local Government Minister and MP for Nalerigu-Gambaga constituency, Hajia Alima Mahama, the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, North East Regional Minister, Solomon Boah, the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bantima Adam Samba among others.
