Northern regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Shaibu Shani has stated that the rich and diverse agricultural potential of the region remains untapped. According to him, agriculture is the backbone of Ghana’s economy, and it accounts for over 74 percent of northern Ghana’s employment.
The minister made this known at the opening ceremony of the 11th Annual pre-harvest agribusiness conference and exhibition at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. Alhaji Alhassan Shaini noted that Agrihouse foundation and the Annual pre-harvest agricbusiness exhibition and conference have won the trust of the people of the north and deserve all the support they need, especially from the private sector and other development partners.
He said this year’s event will feature its characteristic exhibition, showcasing a wide range of products and services including seed production and preservation, fertilizers, finance, fisheries, storage, machinery, packaging and processing, food, innovation, ICT, government agencies, development partners, and farmer associations. The 11th Annual pre-harvest agribusiness conference and exhibition is organized by Agrihouse foundation.
The 3-day conference and exhibition event is on the theme; ‘’Working together to improve market channels for Agri-foods beyond the pandemic’’. The event is in collaboration with Northern regional coordinating council (NRCC), and the ministry of food and agriculture (MOFA).
The sponsors of the event are Yara, Ecobank Ghana PLC, World Food Programme, ADB, GIZ MOAP, Demeter Ghana limited, United fertilizer limited and HD PLUS. Speaking at the ceremony, Alhaji Shani used the occasion to commend Naa Bapre Banvim Lana, for generously donating a piece of land to Agrihouse Foundation for their work. His kind generosity he said is worthy of emulation.
