The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abukari Mahama Gariba II has advised the former president, John Dramani Mahama to pray for long life in his bid to be elected again as Ghana’s President.
The Ya Na reminded the Mr Mahama who is now the flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it is God who chooses leader.
The Dagbon overlord gave the advice when the Mr Mahama paid a courtesy call on him at his private residence at Kalpohini Tuesday evening. Mr Mahama was at the palace to congratulate the Ya Na for his coronation as the new overlord of Dagbon kingdom.
The NDC flag-bearer also used the opportunity to officially introduce himself to the overlord as the new elected presidential candidate for the NDC for the 2020 General elections.
Mr Mahama was accompanied by his former chief of staff, Julius Debrah, former appointees, regional executives and some minority members of parliament in the northern region.
The NDC leader will also attend the 62nd Independence Day celebration on Wednesday morning.
Earlier, he paid a courtesy call on the paramount chief of the Savelugu traditional area, Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, the immediate past Regent of Dagbon. He also visited the paramount chief of Mion, Mahamudu Abdulai, the former Regent of Ya Na Mahamudu Abdulai.
