The Zabzugu Town Development Committee, in collaboration with the Zabzugu Educated Youth Association (ZEYA), has stepped up efforts to end illicit drug usage in Zabzugu township.
Among the steps to tackle the drug menace are a sensitization drive on the consequences of drug abuse, blocking supply points for all forms of drugs, and punitive actions against dealers of such drugs.
The committee, which was comprised of Mr.Osman Baba, representing the Zabzugu Town Development Committee, and Mr. Umar S. Iddrisu, of the Zabzugu Educated Youth Association, recently appeared on ABM Radio, highlighting some of the practices and their associated effects on the people’s health, socio-economic status, and future.
Some solutions to the drug-related problems have also been identified.
Chiefs, Assembly members, other opinion leaders, religious leaders, and youth groups have been urged to support the crusade against drug abuse in the community.
The committee promised to visit schools, youth groups, and Imams to include the issue of drug abuse in their Friday sermons.
Mr. Abdul Malik Zakaria is the host of the ABM Radio station and a member of the committee as well.
Zabzugu Chemical Sellers Association and Zabzugu Town Development Committee are taking it upon themselves to fund this initiative; this was made known to the Zaa News reporter by Mr. Umar S. Iddrisu, who is a member and secretary to the committee.
