The war of words between the nation’s two leading political parties seems to intensify every day as opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) promises its followers that it will work hard to reduce the dominance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the northern regional capital-Tamale where the NDC has enjoyed unparalleled influence for decades.
According to the elephant family, the NPP lost to the NDC by a margin of about 180,000 votes nationwide with over 95,000 of the total votes cast in the four constituencies within the Tamale Metropolitan area.
NPP regional chairman Mr. Bugre Naabu observed that Tamale North, Tamale Central, Tamale South and the Sagnarigu constituencies’ played a major role in the 2012 elections when the NPP lost to the NDC.
Mr. Naabu told party faithfuls that the party is ready to overturn the dominance of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the three constituencies in the Tamale metropolitan area.
Speaking at a consultative meeting with leadership of over 60 identifiable youth groups in the Tamale South constituency, Mr. Naabu encouraged the party’s youth groups to work tirelessly to reverse the dominance of the NDC in those constituencies.
Mr.Naabu said the party will no longer tolerate the intimidations and victimizations from the NDC saying,”We always want to play the gentleman politics but the NDC seems to be capitalizing on that to intimidate our members and sometimes prevent them from voting.”
The meeting held under the auspices of the regional youth wing of the party is part of the party’s efforts in the northern region to strategize to ensure an effective monitoring of the upcoming limited voter registration and to ensure that the party presents a unified front as it works towards victory for the NPP in the 2016 general elections.
The northern regional youth organizer of the party, Alhaji Rashid COP told the leadership of the youth groups to be vigilant, attentive and shun complacency in the discharge of their duties.
He said the victory of the party solely lies on their hands and they must do all possible to ensure NPP wins the 2016 general elections. He encouraged them to break the ranks of the NDC by persuading the disgruntled members of the party to join the NPP.
Alhaji Rashid urged them to engage in politics devoid of insults and personal attacks since this year’s elections are issues based and Ghanaians are quite aware of the current economic situation inflicted on them.
He said posterity will judge all of them if they failed to ensure effective monitoring to bring the NPP back to power. The NPP Chairman for Tamale South, Alhaji Saha-Naa Alhassan Yusif Mozeli called for unity within the party in the constituency.
He also urged all members to bury their difference and pursue a common course by ensuring that the NPP and Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo wins the 2016 elections.
