The Andani Royal family in Dagbon will on Sunday, March 27th, 2016 observe the 14th anniversary of the murder of the late overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II.
During an attack on the Gbewaa palace on March 27, 2002 that lasted for three days, the late Ya-Na and forty others of his retinue were killed.
The Andani family has made it as an annual ritual and has since been observing the day with special prayers and memorial lectures to draw government’s attention to the need to find the perpetrators of the heinous crime that brought Dagbon to its knees.
Mba Dugu Fuseini, who is also the chief spokesperson at the Gbewaa palace announced this year’s anniversary at Tamale airport on Tuesday to over 23 paramount and divisional Chiefs who had trooped to the airport to welcome back the Regent of Dagbon, the Kampakuya Na Andani Abdulai Yakubu from a week-long trip to the nation’s capital, Accra.
Before leaving for Accra last week, the Kampakuya Na cautioned the media in Ghana to be wary about the way they report on the Dagbon issue, reminding reporters that it was a sensitive matter. Later at the presidential villa, the Kampakuya Na entreated all chiefs in Dagbon to attend the anniversary without failure.
“They way you showed up in your numbers to welcome him (The Kampakuya ) he expects to see you on Sunday,” Mba Dugu reminded the chiefs and elders of Dagbon.
