One person is in critical condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital over a land dispute between the people of Kumbungu and Malishegu.
Mr Alhassan Ibrahim believed to be in his early 50s was stabbed in the stomach during the confrontation that ensued between him and another man suspected to have come from Kumbungu.
A combine team of police and military have been dispatched to the Malishegu community in the Sagnarigu District of the Northern region to maintain peace.
There has been a long standing dispute between the two communities which keeps occurring.
The disagreement occurred at about 1pm on Sunday.
Residents in Malishegu have been protesting against the ownership of the controversial piece of land between them and Gumo. Gumo is under the jurisdiction of Kumbungu paramountcy.
Barricades have been erected along Tamale-Kumbungu road by the security to prevent further escalation of the violence.
Speaking to Zaa News, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said no arrest has been made so far. He said police will intensify their patrol in the area to ensure peace and order.
Meanwhile, both Sagnarigu and Kumbungu District Chief Executives have called on both sides to remain calm.
