Azorka,2 others retain their positions

The incumbent Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Awudu Sorfo Azorka has been re- elected at the party's delegates conference on Saturday in Tamale.
He polled 246 votes out of 339 total votes cast to beat Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila who polled 63 votes. The chairmanship position was keenly contested with many predicting Alhaji Iddrisu Kpe-Naa  who had 21 votes to be a winner. 
In all six people vied for the chairmanship position of the NDC. They are Awudu Sorfo Azorka=246-Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila=63-Alhaji Iddrisu Kpe Naa=21-Alhaji Mohammed Sumani Zakari son of the former regional chairman=3-Alhassan Ibrahim Boham, managing director of Alhassan hotel=2-Alhaji Alhassan Ibrahim Libron=1
The vice chairmanship position went to Joseph Amuzu Ngmagnag. 
He polled 161 votes to beat his closest contender, Alhaji Umar Farouk who had 63 votes. Former district chief executive for cheriponi, Alhaji Issah Abah had 53. 

The northern regional organizer of the party who doubles as the regional coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Alhaji Abdulai Siliboma lost his position with 52 votes to Godfred A.Wumbei. Mr Wumbei polled 196 to his closest contender Abubakari Abdul Mumin who had 61 votes. 
The deputy organizer position went to Alhaji Osman Musah with 183 votes. Incumbent regional propaganda secretary Abdul Mumin Alhassan Fuseini retained his position with 179 and he will be assisted by Dramani Bukari Ecomog. 
He polled 161 votes. 
Meanwhile, two deputies have been elected to take charge of the treasury and secretary positions due to the Tamale high court injunction on the two positions. They are deputy treasury, Alhaji Mohammed Amin Baba. He polled 110 votes while former district chief executive for central Gonja, Sualisu Be-Awurapei elected as the deputy regional secretary with 212 votes. 

The incumbent regional women organizer, Olivia Hawa Yahaya was declared as unopposed and has since been sworn-in as women organizer of the NDC. The election was supervised by the Northern regional director of the electoral commission, Mr Bruce Ayisi under heavily armed police and military presence. 

The General Secretary of the NDC Asiedu Nkatia swore-in the newly elected executives in spite of bickering by some aggrieved party supporters at the conference grounds.  
The party will however battle in court with one of the disqualified aspiring regional secretary, lecturer at the Tamale polytechnic, Mohammed Aliu popularly called One-man.  Mr Aliu together with Mohammed Wumbei Zaakaria who was vying for the treasurer position secured court injunction for the two positions.
