The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Northern Region has destroyed unwholesome products worth thousands of Ghana Cedis. The products include assorted drinks and medicines.
The products were confiscated from the open and the various super markets by the posted surveillance team in Tamale.
Speaking to the media at the Tamale landfill site in Gbalahi where the products were burnt, Northern Regional Manager of FDA, Sylvester Oteng-Kyei urged the public to be cautious and be extra careful about the products they purchase in the market.
He advised the consuming public to always check expiry dates of the products they buy for the sake of their safety.
Mr Oteng-Kyei said FDA cannot guarantee the efficacy of products without the authority logo. The burnt items, he said, were obtained during their post mastics surveillance activities in the markets and shops to flush out expired products.
Mr. Mr Oteng-Kyei commended individuals in the region for drawing the authority’s attention to expired products and entreat them to continue to save innocent people’s lives. The FDA, he said, is committed to ensuring potency and safety of products for the consumption.
